Treatment of Patients with Special Needs
Gallant Dental Clinic in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi offers specialised services for patients with special needs, ensuring comfortable and safe treatment under sedation (sleep dentistry).
Conditions we work with:
- Central nervous system disorders
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Epilepsy
- Cerebral palsy of varying degrees
- Down syndrome
Treatment process under sedation (sleep dentistry)
We treat such patients in a single visit, having previously discussed all the details with the parents, and perform the treatment while the patient is asleep. The patient is put to sleep using a mask with the gas “Sevoran” or “Sevoflurane” (certified and approved for use in Ukraine). Intubation is performed with an anaesthesia machine under the constant supervision of a top-level anaesthesiologist and an anaesthetic nurse.
This allows us to provide high-quality dental treatment while avoiding the fear and stress commonly associated with dental visits. During the treatment, the anaesthesiologist continuously monitors breathing, circulation, pulse, blood pressure, and blood oxygen saturation.
What can be done under sedation?
While under sedation, we can not only treat teeth but also perform tooth extractions of any complexity, dental implants, professional dental cleaning
Patient preparation for the procedure
Preparation for patients with special needs is the same as for other patients and includes:
- Complete blood count
- ECG (if possible)
- Neurologist’s opinion (if required)
Equipment and safety
The treatment room at Gallant Dental Clinic, where sleep dentistry is performed, is equipped with everything necessary, including:
- Anaesthesia machine (made in Belgium)
- Ventilation and oxygen supply system
- Resuscitation equipment
This allows immediate response to any situation.
Post-procedure care
After the procedure under sedation, the patient is transferred to a recovery room where they wake up under the supervision of medical staff in a pleasant, private environment alongside their parents. After 30–40 minutes, the patient is usually ready to go home.
Effect of anaesthesia on the body
Many parents are concerned about the safety of anaesthesia. The gas “Sevoran” has no harmful effect on the body and is exhaled unchanged through the lungs by 95–97%.
