Vestibuloplasty (oral vestibule correction)
Vestibuloplasty at Gallant Dental Clinic is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting anatomical features of the oral vestibule (the area between the lips/cheeks and the teeth/gums). This operation improves both the functionality and aesthetics of the oral cavity, enhancing the patient's overall quality of life.
Benefits of Vestibuloplasty:
Improved functionality: The procedure enhances the mobility of the lips and cheeks, positively affecting chewing and speech.
Disease prevention: Vestibuloplasty helps prevent periodontal diseases caused by improper gum positioning.
Protection against gum recession: Correcting the vestibule reduces the risk of gum recession and root exposure.
Aesthetic improvement: The procedure helps align the gum line and enhances the appearance of the smile.
Indications for Vestibuloplasty:
Insufficient depth of the oral vestibule
Abnormal attachment of the labial or lingual frenulum
Gum recession
Preparation for dentures or implants
Periodontal diseases
Vestibuloplasty Procedure Stages:
- Consultation with the oral surgeon
The first step includes an oral examination, evaluation of the gums, and assessment of the need for vestibuloplasty. The doctor performs the necessary diagnostics and discusses the treatment plan with the patient. - Pre-operative preparation
Includes cleaning the oral cavity from plaque and tartar and sanitising the mouth. The dentist explains the surgical process and provides pre-operative care instructions. - Surgery
Under local anaesthesia, the surgeon corrects the vestibule, and if needed, performs frenulum plastic surgery (of the lips or tongue). The procedure typically lasts 30–60 minutes. - Post-operative care
The dentist provides recommendations for oral hygiene, prescribes anti-inflammatory medications, and antibiotics if necessary. The patient should follow a special diet and avoid physical exertion during recovery.
Preventing Post-Surgical Complications:
Proper oral hygiene: Brush your teeth twice daily using fluoride toothpaste.
Avoid trauma: Refrain from eating hard foods and engaging in intense physical activities during recovery.
Regular dental check-ups: Preventive examinations every 6 months help detect and treat issues early.

How much time is needed for recovery after vestibuloplasty and what are the possible complications?
During the first few days after the surgery, it is better to avoid brushing your teeth. The mouth should be rinsed several times a day with an antiseptic solution recommended by the doctor. Around the 5th day, when the stitches have fully healed, full oral care is allowed.
During the rehabilitation period, it is important to follow a diet – avoid hot, acidic foods, spicy dishes, and alcoholic beverages. Food should be soft, pureed, or finely chopped.
In rare cases, complications may occur – bleeding, reduced tissue sensitivity, formation of complex scars, or local swelling. In any of these cases, consultation and intervention by a doctor are necessary.
What are the post-operative recommendations after vestibuloplasty?
After the surgery, it is recommended to limit physical activity, avoid foods that may irritate the mucous membranes, and refrain from eating spicy and hard foods.
